But you know, she worked for years making those songs and then had to throw these together in a year or so. I think that's why, if you listen to what she does with her voice on Actor, there's nothing really surprising or interesting going on. It's very cut and dry; a "here is my voice, you're welcome" style of singing. The cool instrumentation is a way to cover that up (or make up for it), because writing really complex vocal melodies is tough!! On Marry Me, they were complex and all over the place because she had time to make tweaks, to change things, to try out different sounds. Not so with Actor.

/rantCalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984120879306794047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9491813.post-53330127726984393912009-05-07T14:03:00.000-05:002009-05-07T14:03:00.000-05:00It's a bloody good video, considering it's basical...It's a bloody good video, considering it's basically nothing and still, as you put it, is "oddly enjoyable". Your very spot on with your review too, by the way. Apart from the hooklessness (is that a word?), there is another thing I kind of miss in Actor, and that is songs more dynamic in tempo, volume, even melody. Though the new songs are all exquisitely arranged and very well crafted, I miss songs of complexity. That feel like Paris is Burning, for example. Am I making sense?Lnoreply@blogger.com
